Jupiter | wisdom & magic

JUPITER WISDOM

Largest of all our known planets, Jupiter is astrologically associated with expansion, authority, and knowledge, goodness, kindness, and loyalty. Like its companion planet Saturn, Jupiter is considered to be a Great Teacher with a fatherly nature, and acts as a mentor, teacher and guide throughout our lifetime, but unlike Saturn - who in Greek mythology is his father, and therefore presents a more grandfatherly nature, Jupiter is a planet of slow stillness that teaches us the art of deep inner wisdom and reflection and whose nature invites us to expand, move, and grow, teaching us the art of receiving wisdom and insights from the world around us.

Ruler of the astrological sign Sagittarius, and one of the earliest known planets (along with Saturn, Mars, Venus and Mercury) Jupiter the planet was named after Jupiter the supreme God and king of all the Roman gods, whose name comes from the Latin 'Iuppiter', by way of the Indo-European name for the ancient sky god called 'Dyeu-pater', which is a combination of Dyeus, or Zeus, meaning sky/shine, and pater meaning 'father'.

JUPITER MAGIC

Call upon Jupiter for magical and rituals workings of faith, spirituality, religion, law and authority - but not in any oppressive sense as Jupiter is a kind king, with a warm heart. Also call upon this planet for workings and wishes of increase, wealth, success, luck, risk (gamble) speculation, mercy, health, and for traveling long distances. Be very clear and specific about what you are asking for when working with this planet, as Jupiter delivers in a big way.

A more esoteric magical association with Jupiter is that of expanding sexual energy, and increasing masculine power (even in women), most especially whenever it conjuncts with Mars.

Jupiter's astrological symbol looks like an elegantly fashioned '4', and is said to be an eagle, or the letter 'Z' for Zeus. Comprised of several other symbols, we can see the numbers 2 and 4, which numerologically represent union, partnership and foundation, grounding and stability.
